1944 August Benington Aston and Walkern

The issue from August 1944 (above) is a combined magazine covering Benington, Aston and Walkern. Presumably this was because of shortages of paper during WW2. Of particular note in this issue is the announcement of the death on 27th July 1944 of Georgiena Cotton-Browne in both the Walkern and Benington sections of the magazine. She was owner of Walkern Hall and Boxhall Farm in Benington Parish. Miss Cotton-Browne was very generous to both Walkern and Benington, donating £300 in 1906 for the restoration of Benington Church Tower and £105 in 1915 in memory of her mother towards “Mrs Cotton-Browne’s Charity” for the benefit of widows in the parish.
